As a result of the decision taken at the Association's 2024 Annual General Meeting to supend activities at the County level, much of the information on this site, particularly that which relates to county-wide activities, is now out-of-date. The County Chair is currently working to implement the membership's decision. Once this is complete, the website will be updated to reflect the current situation.

The Association has established and supports two charities, both of which are administered by separate Trustees appointed by the Association's Board:

  • The Association of Men of Kent & Kentish Men Eduational Charity (Reg. No. 309021), and
  • The Association of Men of Kent & Kentish Men Benevolent Fund (Reg. No. 216463).

Educational Charity

The objects of the Charity are to:

  1. Provide competition prizes to any school children resident in Kent, and
  2. Grant a bursary to any resident of Kent attending higher education.

Competitions

The Trustees may, from time to time, organise a competition or may decide to offer prizes for a competition organised by others. In either case, the Tustees may specify the criteria to be used in judging such competition and/or the school children who may enter the competition. The Trustees may appoint judges for the competition or may act as judges.

Bursaries

In order to apply for a Bursary, a student must have been accepted for a College of Higher Education or a University, must complete and submit to the Vice-Chair of the Association an application form by no later than 1 September, and must attach to the application form an essay of not more than 500 words entitled 'Why I should have this Bursary.'

All applications will be reviewed by the Trustees of the Charity, and applicants will be advised of their decision by 30 September.

Benevolent Fund

The Fund may provide financial support to those in need, either in the form of an annuity or as a one-off emergency payment.

An application for support from the Benevolent fund must be submitted to the Vice-Chair of the Association and requires two sponsors, one of whom must be a Member of the Association. Each sponsor must be aware of the circumstances of the applicant and must be prepared to justify the provision of support, if requested.

With the removal of government restrictions imposed in response to concerns about the coronavirus, it is to be hoped that there can be a resumption of Association and Branch activities. However, it is recognised that it is necessary for people to remain cautious and, consequently, it may be prudent to limit or cancel any scheduled event, possibly on short notice. All plans should, therefore, be considered as tentative and Members should check before travelling to any activity or event.
