HMS Kent

The Association maintains a link with HMS Kent, the newest of the Royal Navy's Type 23 Duke class frigates. The ship was built on the Clyde, launched in 1998, and commissioned in 2000. Although technically named after the dukedom rather than the county, the people of Kent like to think of the ship as being their 'own.'

In December 2015, HMS Kent made a visit to Dover, and the Association's Deal and Walmer branch took the opportunity to make the ship's company feel welcome. Many of the crew attended the Branch's annual Bangers and Mash Christmas Party, and the following day a small group of Members were able to tour the ship and attend a number of events held on board.

With the removal of government restrictions imposed in response to concerns about the coronavirus, it is to be hoped that there can be a resumption of Association and Branch activities. However, it is recognised that it is necessary for people to remain cautious and, consequently, it may be prudent to limit or cancel any scheduled event, possibly on short notice. All plans should, therefore, be considered as tentative and Members should check before travelling to any activity or event.
